Peter Orlovsky Papers, 1952-1983.

Papers include diaries, drafts of poems, dreams, and conversations, sketchbooks, correspondence, miscellaneous materials, and work by other writers. Orlovsky's diaries documenting his life during the 1960s and 1970s comprise the majority of the collection. Mentioned in the many of the diaries are literary and artistic figures such as Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Gregory Corso, John Giorno, Robert LaVigne, Timothy Leary, Gary Snyder, and Anne Waldman. Poem drafts include work from Clean Asshole Poems and Smiling Vegetable Songs, Straight Hearts' Delight, and a series of fragments. Outgoing letters to Orlovsky's parents and his siblings, Lafcadio and Marie, represent much of the correspondence. Incoming letters are from his mother, Katherine, and Susan Joan Gorbea.
